Evolve Acupuncture

Dietary Therapy at Evolve

Chinese Dietary Therapy is based on basic principles of eating a more balanced diet according to one’s own constitution and is a complex practice that identifies and treats a person’s underlying patterns of imbalance. It is important to remember that everyone is an individual and that there is no single or specific diet that is best for everyone.

The science of Traditional Chinese dietary therapy involves the understanding of the properties of foods and their effects on health as well the use of food for preserving health.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, food is categorized like herbs. That is, both the flavor and the thermal nature of foods are considered when designing a dietary program relative to a person’s constitution and pattern of imbalance. The five principal categories of taste are sour, sweet, bitter, pungent and salty.

Based on the five element theory, Traditional Chinese Medicine holds that each taste favors an internal organ: sour favors the liver, sweet favors the spleen, bitter favors the heart, pungent favors the lungs, and salty favors the kidneys. Generally, each taste has a different impact on the human body. Another important principle in Chinese dietary Therapy is that foods are classified according to their thermal nature. Those are cold, cool, warm, and hot. In practice, these natures divide into two basic kinds – cold and hot.

In short, Evolve acupuncture can design for each individual a personalized Chinese Dietary Therapy program in conjunction with a review of an individual’s daily lifestyle habits. Education will be provided on proper sleep/wake cycles, daily movement and restorative practices that can be applied to enhance an individual’s overall well-being.
